First, servers are located in countries selected specifically for their strong privacy laws (Iceland, Switzerland, and Sweden). We have also gone to extraordinary lengths to defend our Secure Core servers. Proton VPN knows that for this feature to do its job, the “core” servers must be extremely well protected: Even if that hostile third party did manage to compromise the destination server, they could only trace your traffic back as far as the locations of the special servers, making it virtually impossible to break your privacy.
